My Child Needs a Mentor

If you, or someone you know, is looking for a positive role model for your/their child, Big Brothers Big Sisters can help. The Big Brothers Big Sisters program of D.A. Blodgett - St. John's is an evidence based program, which strengthens relationships for children and families.

Who is Eligible:

  • Children ages 5-17
  • Children who live in Kent or Eastern Ottawa county

Big Brother and Big Sister Matches:

  • Have the power to create a lasting relationship your child's life
  • Participate in activities that both the mentor and your child will enjoy
  • Are supported by a Big Brother Big Sister social worker and you the parent
  • Have an ability to become lifelong friendships that continue long after the program ends

In 2012, 381 children were served in our Big Brothers Big Sisters program and of those children:

  • 98% enjoyed their relationship with their volunteers
  • 92% demonstrated improved school performance
  • 90% improved or maintained a good school attendance record
  • 90% demonstrated a respectful and caring relationship with others
  • 86% made constructive use of their time in creative activities
  • 96% demonstrated responsible behavior in the community
